A Junk Drawer Key

There’s always that key mixed in with the rest of the junk. It’s the usual junk: old
receipts, useless pennies, and those gum packs with only two sticks in it. You
grab the key and wonder what it once opened.
What is it to you and the wife’s first
house? Â You study the key and recall that
little house in Meraux that had that new house smell to it. You can remember
opening the door and carrying the wife over the threshold.
Maybe the key started your old Chevy truck
that was lost in a storm. You stand there reminiscing about when you first
bought that vehicle and all the trips you made in it – The Great Smoky
Mountains, Houston, Texas or maybe to Camp Beauregard on one of your old
National Guard trips.
It suddenly occurs to you that the key might
have no real significance. It might just be some second key that opened some
extra bolt lock on a previous front door. But you observe the key and wonder. Should I just leave it in this drawer with
the rest of the junk? The things this key once opened no longer exist. All you’re
left with is the memories and a junk drawer key. 14.0pt">
