Lefty

She was 42 and a virgin when I met her, with a face as fresh as beauty ever made. Her body was touch slightly with a brush of tan, and her youth had a strangle hold on her age. When I met her, she was grieving over the loss of a fiance, who died ere love and kiss could collide. Ours was a romance through word, while she always stood a step behind me for fear had seized her heart and would not let go. I would sit with her in my mind, and dance with her in the rain, I would hold the memory of her father with one hand while she held the other in disbelief. For it was not proper for us to hold hands in her custom, so I borrowed her dead father and killed two birds with one stone. Before time had a chance to tell me about one of her legs being shorter then the other, my love for her had already seasoned my resolve for her as my wife. She told me one of her legs grew slower then the other due to what happen when she was a child. Her Mom, an able woman  of command 15 years or more younger then her husband, took her to the hospital for a common cold like fever, and was given a shot in the leg by the doctor only to discover it was the wrong medication to which stop the growth in her leg. From doctor to doctor and hospital to hospital, her Mother would go dancing for the well being of her daughter and would stop at nothing until satisfied. Finally a Doctor was found that knew what to do, but said it was too late to undo the damage already done. Still with a limp, her Mom would not except nothing but her best, nor gave her any breaks for life or chores. With this spirit, she conquered and challenged all things and all people. Standing every bit below 5ft, she was a pistol pete, mover and shaker, soft spoken and firm woman. I called her leg Lefty...at first she was hurt and confused, i simply told her, had it not been for the leg, I would not even be a memory, for surely someone would have grabbed her long before now, and since the leg has more to do with our being together then the death of her passing fiance, I told her i celebrated her leg as I did her. Life has twist and turns, we fear the unknown more then the gifts we receive from that unknown...nj
