Letter to My Younger Self

Letter to My Younger Self

Dear Marianna,

Hey there younger self! How is third grade going? Be prepared to laugh in Hannah’s face because you are going to have a little brother! The best part is, he is a red head just like you! So good news: you weren’t adopted. He is the sweetest, yet most fierce little boy you will ever see. He also calls you Yaya because he can’t pronounce your name. Hang in there! School will get a little better. Just don’t do anything too much out of your awesome character! By the way, you don’t get a boyfriend. Don’t spend any time looking for one. In fourth grade, boyfriends do exist. When you move to your next school, you are going to learn how to speak French fluently and Julien is going to have a wicked teacher who hates him as much as everything else in the world.

Enough predicting the future. Marianna, you are a great person and do not feel any need to avenge anyone, slap anyone, or hit anyone. You know better than that. Do your best to make good friends and hold on to them, these are the people that you are going to need most when things go south. Stay strong as well. You are going to have a lot of embarrassing moments in the future, but that doesn’t mean you are stupid, ignorant, or an idiot. People around you may not seem to have embarrassing moments, or bad friendships, but they do. They are too proud to laugh at them, too vain to show them, and probably have some sort of desire to appear more superior. Don’t feel like you have to be serious and cover ever fault up. In fact, show it off! Make sure that you are able to laugh at your mistakes and show off your flaws, after all, it’s what makes a human human. These people have just as many flaws as you, but have too much desire of superiority to actually admit it. Don’t worry. Don’t laugh at them. In fact, just pity them, pray for them, and try to help them. And most of all, your family comes first before all your friends and possessions. Never forget that.

                                                Best Wishes,

                                                            Yaya
