Light
There was once a girl, surrounded by darkness. She spent her days wearing a mask to hide herself from everyone, but also to protect them. For if she were to remove her mask, all of her demons would be released the the people around her. She would be forcing them to fight her demons for her, so she swore to fight them herself or to let them kill her. She lived her life like this for many years, but she was getting weaker and her demons were getting stronger. She would talk to people like nothing was wrong and sometimes it almost seemed like that was true, but she knew better. Her demons were always lurking in the shadows, waiting. Then one day, she met someone. He didn't seem too different from everyone else at first, but they began to talk to one another. Slowly she began to regain a little strength, and feel a little more hopeful. Then one day, the boy said to her, "Please, take off your mask." She refused, not wanting to hurt him, but she began to realize that as she had gotten closer to him, her mask had begun to break. If she didn't leave now, then he would be killed. She turned to run, but he grabbed her hand and said to her, "I will never hurt you. I only want to help you." Relief flooded through her and her mask fell to the floor. The boy was quickly engulfed by darkness, and the girl's face began to fall. She fell to her knees and began to cry. She had finally broken, and opened herself up to her demons. She looked up at the darkness, only to see it pierced by a blinding light. Slowly she watched as each of her demons were slain and the darkness began to fade away. The boy walked up to her and kneeled down. He looked her in the eyes and told her, "You were my light in the dark, and I didn't even realize how close I was to losing you to that very same darkness. I'm so sorry." And for the first time in that girls life, she finally felt free. She could finally feel relief, happiness, and love. She finally realized that even though she was dark and depressed, she could find happiness and light. She closed her eyes and smile for the first and last time. She said to the boy, "If only I had known earlier because now, you are too late. You truly are the sun, and I am the universe. You give me the light and nurture to live a prosperous life. You have given a meaningless soul a purpose. And I can never repay you. Goodbye, my love." Your demons are a part of you. They thrive off your pain, but can also give you strength. You have to learn to face them because if you fight them, they will only tear you down. And if someone else fights them for you, then it can destroy you. You are strong enough, believe in yourself and you will accomplish great and wondrous things.
