POET'S PEN
CIRCUMFERENCE
Labyrinthine, this recurring circulation.
Scaling the circumference of a lifeless pendulam.
Devoid of a shade to rest n recollect.
Lapsing pearls of inclinations.
Betwixt the escape through pointing bonds n ties.
Summon the whole at each commanding milestones.
Adhered to the chimes of vows.
Aligning with the ethos of surveillance.
Yearn to confine in the womb of moments.
Battling with
hours, minutes n seconds.
Pleasure or pain, day or night unawares..
Again and again
Rouse n report
Gasping till the end
touch the starting point
Where no way to escape...

ANALYSIS
The above poem, titled "Circumference," by Jayalakshmi Karindalam, paints a picture of a cyclical, constrained existence. The poem revolves around a sense of being trapped within a repetitive cycle, a "recurring circulation." This cycle is described as "labyrinthine," suggesting complexity and a lack of clear direction. It explores the feeling of being bound by obligations, "bonds n ties," and societal expectations, "ethos of surveillance." It delves into the internal struggle between a desire for freedom and the pressure to conform.
The "lifeless pendulam" metaphor is very powerful, it implies a constant movement, but without any real progression or life. The language is evocative and metaphorical, creating a sense of unease and confinement. "Lapsing pearls of inclinations" suggests fleeting desires or aspirations that are lost in the cycle. "chimes of vows" and "ethos of surveillance" are good examples of how the author shows outside pressures.
"womb of moments" is a powerful image of a desire for a safe, contained space, a return to a simpler state. The use of "hours, minutes n seconds" emphasizes the relentless nature of time and the feeling of being trapped within it. The repetition of "Again and again" reinforces the cyclical nature of the experience. "Gasping till the end" shows the heavy toll that this cycle takes. The tone is one of weariness, resignation, and a sense of being trapped. The mood is melancholic and claustrophobic. There is a feeling of an internal battle, and a sense of exhaustion.
The poem could be interpreted as a reflection on the pressures of modern life, where individuals feel trapped in a cycle of work, obligation, and societal expectations. It could also be seen as an exploration of the internal struggles of an individual who feels bound by their own commitments or fears. The ending "Where no way to escape..." is very bleak, it shows a complete feeling of being trapped. The poem captures the feeling of being on a wheel, where you are always moving, but never getting anywhere. Congratulations to poet Jayalakshmi, Stay Blessed.
