On the day a loved one dies
Your body trembles and your whole soul cries
Look towards heaven and you will see
A graceful bird flying free
(We humans fear death; it is only to think ourselves intelligent, without being shrewd: for it is to think that we know what we do not know on death and its after effects, Poetess has depicted this themes very poetically through the above lines, my applause)
Above the clouds and sky so blue
Nothing on earth left to do
Higher and higher above the rain
No more hurting, no more pain
(For anything that men can enlighten, passing away may be the greatest good that can happen to anyone in this world, but we all fear it as if we knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know in short?)
Gliding on the currents of the wind above
Carrying in the heart friends and families love
Beautiful earth below, beautiful sea
(It is a probing thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know.
A life, a memory so precious that will forever be
Flying to heaven the Lord to meet
With those loved gone before to greet
(It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.)
As the days go by and your heart breaks and bleeds
Remember your loved ones laughter to heal that need
Look toward heaven and you will see
A graceful bird flying free
(The spirit dies a slow death, detaching each hope like leaves until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains)

Shirley Rebstock's above poem is very significant and symbolic in nature, There is no exact definition for any symbol; all symbols are open to interpretation and birds are no exception to this.
The symbolism can vary greatly depending on different cultures and religion. The bird is generally thought to symbolize freedom, they can walk on the earth and swim in the sea as humans do but they also have the ability to soar into the sky. They are free and many consider that they symbolize eternal life; the link between heaven and earth. Many cultures believe that certain symbols are an omen of impending birth or death. In the traditional English rhyme the sight of three magpies signifies the birth of a girl whereas seeing four magpies signifies the birth of a boy. Seeing a particular number of Magpies determines whether it is a good or bad luck symbol, Bird Symbol in Christianity is very significant .Christians believe that birds or winged creatures represent the souls in paradise
Those who have lived a good life do not fear death, but meet it calmly and even long for it in the face of great suffering. But those who do not have a peaceful conscience dread death as though life means nothing but physical torment. The challenge is to live our life so that we will be prepared for death when it comes.
Death is the termination of all biological functions that sustain a living organism and the concept is about biological aging. Bodies of living organisms begin to decompose shortly after death. Death has commonly been considered a sad or unpleasant occasion, due to the termination of bonds with or affection for the being that has died, or having fear of death
Dear Poetess Shirley Rebstock, please accept my congratulations for sharing such a good theme for us, Your poem is fabulous, Keep pouring more and more poems, wishing you good luck in your future writings, Regards & Love

Wow, you are amazing. I loved your total insight. I was aware this is not everyone's thoughts on death and what happens, but when I first wrote it I was thinking in terms of my own death and for my family and friends not to be sad. Then I thought well what about others too. Maybe it will bring comfort. I would hope so . There is another poem out there somewhere for those who believe someone is going in the other direction or wherever. I would not want to judge that person though and be the one to write the poem. unless it could help someone live a better life.
Thank you, you are a really insightful, and and fasinating and interesting writer. i am honored you chose my poem.
