Prologue: Inception

Night was just beginning as the sun disappeared into the West. The distant sound of thunder could be heard as it began to rain upon the evergreen trees, the thunder growing more prominent every minute. Lightning tore across the sky as the storm began, a horse drawn carriage black as night rushed into view. It raced into the darkness of the forest as the cyclone above worsened. Lightning flashed once more revealing a dark cloaked stranger inside the carriage. Jostling across the terrain at an excelling speed it suddenly came to a halt outside a quaint cottage. The cottage was small and made of thick grey stone, the window sills dimly lit with candles. The top left window further brightened; the stranger just sat and listened. From the privacy of the cottage, muttering of many women and screams of immense pain could be heard.
A dark-haired woman lay on the bed; her face was beautiful yet careworn as she dripped in sweat with hair strewn across her face. Her pregnant belly pulsed with contractions; she gritted her teeth as she cringed in agony. Women surrounded her carrying towels and basins of water, her husband held her hand she began to push. More screams emanated from her as she gave birth. When the screaming subsided the stranger stirred from the position in which it had been sitting, carefully poked its head out. The lightning revealed a man’s face. It was worn with a scar on his left cheek, his hair shone silver like dragon scales, eyes piercing green as he stared off up towards the window. Not making a move, he listened intently.
Inside the cottage the woman had passed away giving birth to twins, a boy and a girl. An array of blood soaked blankets and towels draped her lifeless body, whimpering came from the women who enclosed the space around her. The husband handing both babies off to one of the women brushed the others aside, breaking to his knees he wept for his wife. He held his wife once more feeling nothing but remorse for what he had lost. Everyone stood in quiet contemplation. One nurse looked out the window, tears rolling down her face she saw nothing but rain and darkness. The carriage that was once there was gone unseen.
Lightning continued erupting across the sky allowing mountains to appear in the background. The forest was dense with a variety of different trees, all of them heavy with water. The rain lightened and the leaves dripped with water pooling on the ground. The night was over and the sun was beginning to illuminate the land ahead. A ferocious storm brought to the country a radiant sunrise, the dawning of a new day had come.
With the rising of the sun, the man prepared to bury his beloved wife. Cleaning her up from the previous night he then adorned her in a red dress laced with pearls, allowing a few of the women to finish dressing her. It then was with a heavy heart and a tear upon his cheek that he made his way outside to dig. One shovel at a time he dug a hole deeper into his heart, removing all the love he once knew. His heart growing cold, he buried his beautiful wife and covered her grave with flowers. A single blue rose caught the corner of his eye, with a steady hand he dug it up and placed it at the head of the grave along with a stone, carved in it was her name; Evelent. Pausing to look at his work he fell to his knees, caressing his head with his hands he wept once more. His life as he knew it and all that he loved was gone, the children however only reminded him of his sorrow. Therefore he sent them away, not caring about anything in the world but Evelent. Agony and depression took him and he later died of a broken heart. His children were sent to live elsewhere, possibly never to reunite.
