RUMPA RHYMES
The role of the sea in human culture has been significant for centuries, as people experience the sea in conflicting as well as contradicting interpretations: as powerful but serene, beautiful but hazardous. Human responses to the sea can be found in many art forms including poetry and visual arts as well. Human life is like a bubble which is broken in every second; symbolically the wet seashore is our own frozen body after death.

In poetry, the ocean is used in a symbolic form; most often refers to human emotions. We have the deep blue ocean of love, drowning in misfortune and calamity, calm as being tranquil and during the days of sailing of ships; a death sentence. It refers to the depth of our feelings as compared to the depth of the sea, our anger as a stormy sea and the seas seemingly endlessness sorrows and  despair in real life.

The sea is sentiment incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all restraints. This book of poetic analysis titled “ Rumpa Rhymes”  penned by Williamsji Maveli is based on selected poems of Poet & Artist Rumpa Ghosh currently based in Mumbai in India.
