Running

Running

I hear my heart beat to my running steps. I follow the bright star to the north running without stopping until I hear the dogs barking and snarling in the distance. They are coming to get me. My heart they hear beating ahead. It feels like the wind is going against me. Its blowing to the south I push and run harder, lighter, faster. The tall maple trees can't hide me any more. I find some raccoon droppings to hide my scent and rub it all over me. Please I beg up to the heavens Please do not let them catch me. They have caught up with me, I find some blueberry bushes my legs and heart are so tired I need to hide. I pray and pray and hope they do not find me this time. I will be dead if they catch me its my third time. Last time I was stripped and beaten to a tree with a whip as long and tall as an old oak tree. I felt my legs go like rubber and fell to the ground, The whip was around my neck I just wanted to die there. I couldn't breathe couldn't talk couldn't tell them to stop. My throat closed up I saw everything go dark my life I knew it was dead there was no more. I lay to the floor like a soft butterflying landing. I felt my body float through the sky I opened my eyes and I was flying.
My eyes opened slightly and I woke up in pain. A woman was putting a thick paste on my back it was hurting. I bit down on the cloth they put in my mouth they had doused it with liquor and I blacked out. I woke up on my stomach and tried to get up. The lady in the corner told me to stay still, You will heal up nicely just don't run anymore. You are to young for these markings you are going to end up dead if they catch you again. Those words were now playing in my head. The bushes ruffled as I tucked back more. The dogs were sniffing around the bush then a raccoon jumped out  and ran, the dogs were thrown off. I tucked my head and I didn't make a sound until I heard the men call the dogs back I believe I had won. I peeked out the bushes to see if they were gone. There was not a dog insight, I was home free not lost, I thought of how the north would be as I took my time and walked. No more running I was free. The north was calling me. I thought of how it would be, Playing with other children and going to school and having a family. My dream was cut short when I heard growling in front of me A ghostly dark outline of a man and his dog standing in front of me, holding a whip in his hands about to whip me, I cant go back to where I was before I will not go back when freedom is knocking at my door, I want to be free I yell to the man and his dog , As the dog growls the man says get on the ground I disobey and he whips my back as I attempt to run away, This is how its going to be he holds me down and ties my hands, this is the end of my life now. Im tied to the tree and beaten until the life leaves me my eyes close and I run free finally.
