Maria had imagined what afterlife would be like before. She fantasised about her death many times, which worried her, as she didn't want it to become another one of her sacred obsessions. Fortunately, it didn't. But the law of attraction didn't hesitate to act on her sinful thoughts... Hence why she now laid lifeless on the stone tiles of a dark and abandoned alley.
On the other hand, the dark-haired and blue-eyed man dashed through the streets of Azule regretfully, while he tried his best to stay hidden in the shadows. He had never imagined himself to commit such an unearthly crime; but of course, it was his only chance at being able to live the life he had before the governmental changes. A life without poverty.
A bit of buttered bread and a sip of whole milk were able to convince him to pursue this horrid task, without doubts of not receiving his payment.
Maria had believed that once her heart stops, her soul will detach from her body and it'll travel to its desired place: heaven or hell. Although, her obsession with Catholicism failed to help her in her current situation. She could still feel the harsh wind against her pale, exposed skin - even though she had been sure that her blood no longer flowed. She could also still see out of her emerald green, glassy eyes - despite her sureness of having lost all her senses. Nevertheless, she could not move. She had lost that privilege minutes before she inhaled her last dose of oxygenated air.
The man stuck to the shadows like his life depended on it. (He refused to admit it actually did). It had been around five minutes since his deed; he had been counting the seconds since. However, he eventually lost his focus on time, as other things started bothering him. His lungs burned. Lactic acid filled his muscles, as he was unable to provide his cells with enough oxygen for aerobic respiration. He could've laughed - if he would not have been in such a serious situation - as his biomedical knowledge resurfaced. With that came other memories: his time at university, his life before it all. The good times. However, a certain memory made him sorrowful again. The picture of him, holding his late redhaired fiance close, hoping he never will have to let go, flashed before his eyes. He nearly tripped over his own feet at his next thought: that woman he encountered, just around five minutes ago, had the same scent as the woman of the past he loved and missed dearly.
Maria helplessly stared up at the sky, the shining stars, and the cresent moon. The latter reminded her of the forgotten days and her loving sister. Oh how they joked about the moon looking like cheese! Or a banana, when it was not even close on being full. Her sister was years older, and so they expected her to pass first. By the look of things at the moment, her sister shall be greatly impressed that she managed to outlive her. But that's only if she finds out, which isn't very likely... The country's new system disapproves of international connections.
