A Succubus Dream of Dreams

Her eyes shifted under tightly closed eyes. Finally sleep had found her. Long Crimson hair resting against a black satin pillow case. He dog laying on the floor next to her. She had been so tired she hadn't even been able to fall asleep for days. How was that even possible? Too tired to sleep... finally it was here.
Soft moans pressed through slightly parted lips. Bright lights hung all around. In the mist of darkness. Like fireflies shimmering against blackness. There was a man, one she knew. One she recognized, though only through stories she knew. a Dream god. How often, she wondered that they showed their faces in dreams? Tall, with dark hair, "Sandman" they called him. Flesh made of steel with eyes that looked through all souls. He had the ability to bring any dream true, if only in this realm.
But her dreams where not what surrounded. "wha... what is this?" she stammered. His features stayed as stoic as possible. "Your options" he said with a low roll as four doors came slamming down before them with a thundering crash. Setting on darkness, with nothing but the air around to hold them where they where. Her sapphire eyes widened at the wooden doors, then narrowed in confusion. "what options? I don't have any options... I never have." He chuckled. It was an odd sound one she couldn't tell if it was genuine or forced. "You've been traveling from the underworld, meeting new people, new men... studying." She nodded all these things where true, but what did it matter. What she was, it stopped anything she never thought possible with any man. How lucky her sister Mohroganna was, to have found someone that could look past what she was. "You did what you had to to get away from your... 'curse' didn't you."
'Curse' what a perfect word for what she was, a demon of lust, that fed off of innocent men to quench her sexual thirst. "Did it work as you wanted it?" she gazed at the closed doors... "I thought it had... at first..."
"but.?" he asked looking down at the small frame of the redhead. "They still look at me the same way." His hands behind his back he nodded.
"That makes sense you're a beautiful woman." She frowned... looking down toward the nothingness that was this dream. To the never ending sparks of life. "It's not the same..."
"you want to be seen"
she interrupted him quickly. "As more than JUST a beautiful face. As more than a whore to be concurred then left like garbage. I want what everyone wants, I'm tired of being alone!" There was a twinkle in his eyes. "what if I told you, behind these four doors... you could find that?" Her eyes snapped up, wide and curious... "how?... who?" the side of his mouth turned up in a smile.
"You my dear dreamer are as blind as any woman when she thinks that love is never going to find her... Open the doors." She stood motionless for what felt like eternity, until a strong gust of wind set her feet forward. She blinked at the first door. Slowly her hand going to the golden knob. Her pulse was shaking violently through her. Forcing a strong courage filled hand to twist, she frowned at the handsome face that looked back at her. She remembered meeting him a few times in Europe. Tall, broad and blonde with dark brown eyes that would have brought any other woman to their knees. They had laughed as they talked. He was slowly becoming a good friend. She even had plans to see him soon. He was human though, and that complicated things, he would die one day and she would not. They where something that could never be.
"I... I don't understand." She stuttered. The dream god stepped forward, his voice soft behind her. "He see's more in you than your looks. He's falling for you, and fast. He'll ask for more from you soon. I've see it in his dreams."
"but... but... I" she shook her head no. "I don't see him like that... he's just my friend." He nodded.
"this I know... but he does not." the door slammed shut.
"I guess that's a no to a future with him then. shall we try door number two?"
Her frown deepened. What was this, a show of the men that sought after her that she didn't want? How cruel. Was he enjoying the way her heart ached with every passing second? She didn't have to open the second door... it was already shifting open. A demon. One that had already told her of his want for her. One that had offered her many treasures of many realms. Though he too was from the underworld, he hadn't been like the other torturing demons she'd come across. For that she'd made friends with him quickly. She'd tried to tell him time and time again that she didn't want his gifts, only his friendship. That however only seemed to make him strive harder to be with her. His blood red skin shown with golden flex and his black eyes blinked at her. He was bald, with cute little pointed ears. She felt for him, felt the pain he had when she'd told him no. She turned her head away from the image.
"no" she whispered... "don't show me this." The god before her said nothing, just let the door close. "Open the next" she shook her head.
"I don't want to"
"don't you?... don't lie to me, you maybe a goddess among demons but I can still feel what is deep inside you. I can practically taste your hope."
Her hope? Did she even have any anymore? but as his words washed over her, she knew what he was saying was true. She did have hope for what could await her behind one of these doors. Hope for true love, the love you only read about in fairy tales. The love that is shown to you without prejudice and the one you can give back with all you have.
"Open it" he said again. With a long deep breath she listened... "Oh, no" she cried, covering the sob with her hand. This was not the man she wanted to see. The last time she'd seen him he'd feared her. She'd rapped him, with her new found violent nature. She hadn't known what she was then and he'd ran from her. He'd just been a boy. He'd grown well. Still as handsome as she remember. His sharp green eyes bore into her like daggers.
"why him?" she pleaded. "why would you show me HIM?!" Still calm the dream god spoke...
"because he loved you as you wish for." she shook her head violently, turning her angry gaze toward the dream god. "he RAN from me!!" Her finger pressing deep into his chest. "He RAN"
He merely tilted his head with a cocked
"he was remorseful for that. He's looked for you ever since. Though you hide yourself well in the Underworld didn't you? He loved you before the day you took him and every day since." Her brow furrowed in slight pain.
"No! how could you show me this?" Her words trailed off and she glared at the last remaining door. He would be standing behind it, she knew it! He'd saved him for last. "Don't you rub my childhood love in my face. This is MY dream." great thing about being a mixed breed, you knew when you where dreaming.
"Just give me what I want!!" She slammed the opened door shut on her past and went for the last. Only to find it lock... Shaking the knob wildly...
"No, no, no..." Charcoal tears began to stream down her face.
"PLEASE!!! NO... Let me have this!!!" she screamed beginning to bang on the door.
"this is MY dream!!! PLEASE." Her eyes burst into flames as did her hands as she set the door on fire. She looked behind her to see no one standing there anymore... He'd left her all alone, with this one door left. And even as flames grew around it, it didn't catch. It might as well had had a face and been laughing at her. A palm spread over the heated wood.
"You're the only one I want" she sobbed as she sank to her knees. Then a click of the handle she looked up, that hope he had talked about fluttered through her chest as she watched the door knob turn on it's own accord. Pulling back she held her breath.
Jeshika's eyes snapped open and her body stiffened straight as she sat up right. Only to sink back down into her plush blood red sheets and black pillow. Her breath was still coming in rough pants as wiped her forehead and then the black tears that still streamed down her cheeks. Hope, dreams, all seemed to be fading from who she was. There was nothing to hold onto anymore.
Not when she couldn't even see her one true loves face in her dreams. How cruel fate was. How careless the dream gods where. She hoped they got a good meal from her spiking feelings she thought, as she lay there.
A low pitched whine came up with a hot nose on her arm. She smiled lightly as she turned and scratched Ash, her dog, behind his ear. "Oh Ash... I think you're the only one for me now" she laughed lightly through her tears as he licked her face, trying to take her tears away.
