The Journey of Lost Thirst (Part IV)

The Journey of Lost Thirst (Part IV)

When Palwasha arrived in Baku, the sun had already set, and the city's lights presented a view of a whole new world. Exhausted and mentally overwhelmed, she debated whether to book a hotel room or rely on the pills given by Gokce. But within moments, a mysterious smile lit up her face.

Searching on Google Maps, she selected a popular tourist spot. A while later, she stood at the door of "The Phoenix Pub." A guard greeted her warmly and opened the door, allowing her to step inside.

The pub's interior was lively and filled with noise. People from various nationalities, laughter, chatter, and the clinking of beer glasses brought the place to life. Palwasha chose an empty table and sat down.

She ordered coffee and began observing her surroundings while sipping lightly. Her eyes sparkled like those of a hunter. Soon, she noticed an Irishman in a white coat and pants sitting at the counter, downing beer glass after glass.

Walking over casually, she said, "Are you mourning a wife who left or lamenting an unfaithful lover?"

The young man, lost in deep thoughts, startled and replied nervously, "H-how do you know?"

Palwasha laughed and said, "Your state is screaming out your secrets, my dear."

Hesitantly, the man said, "My wife has actually run away with my neighbor."

Palwasha burst into laughter and remarked, "Oh well, that’s not so uncommon." Extending her hand, she said, "I’m Palwasha, from Afghanistan. And you?"

The Irishman shook her hand, saying, "I’m Ray Kennedy, but you can just call me Ray."

Palwasha smiled and replied, "And you can call me Pal, affectionately."

During their conversation, Palwasha pretended to be downcast and said, "I just arrived in Baku, but all the hotels are fully booked. I have no place to stay."

Hearing this, Ray said, "That’s not right. If you don’t mind, you can stay in my room. It’s a VIP double-bed room with plenty of space."

Palwasha felt a surge of joy but didn’t show it. She replied, "Thank you, but I’d like to celebrate your hospitality with a drink. It’ll be my first time drinking alcohol, but for you, I’d even drink poison."

Palwasha sat with Ray and drank three glasses of beer. She laughed, chatted, and shared tales of her journey. Ray, too, enjoyed her stories. Sometime later, they both went to Ray’s room.

Ray’s room was beautiful and spacious, with comfortable furnishings. Upon entering, Palwasha removed her jacket, placed it on a chair, and sat on the bed. Ray said, "You can stay here comfortably. Let me know if you need anything."

Palwasha smiled and said, "You’ve done a lot for me today, Ray. I appreciate it."

In their drunken state, their conversation grew more intimate. Emotions and moments of closeness made the night unforgettable.

When Palwasha woke up in the morning, she felt refreshed. Ray had prepared breakfast. She ate, thanked Ray, and said, "Now I must continue my journey."

Ray smiled and said, "I believe our meeting was destined. Take care, Pal."

Palwasha gave him a farewell kiss and rode off on her bike toward a new destination.
