The Long Road Home

The Long Road Home
On one hot summer day, Janet and her sister Gina decides to walk down to their Uncle Phil’s house to play with their cousins. They were all about the same age and they loved playing with each other. Janet and Gina talked the whole way there discussing all the games that they wanted to play. Janet is the oldest but Gina acts as though she is. Gina tells Janet about a new game she learned from one of her older sisters but Janet doesn't want to hear what she has to say. “How about we let Lucinda decide on the game to play,” said Janet. “Ok,” said Gina. Finally they reached their Uncle Phil’s house. Lucinda and Marcus were outside playing with the new dog Rover. “Will he bite?” yelled Janet. “No, of course not!” yelled Marcus. Just as soon as he finishes his sentence, Uncle Phil walks out from the backyard and tells Marcus to put the dog up. Well the dog was so pretty and they all wanted to continue to play with it. “I’m about to put him back in the pen before daddy comes back. Then we’ll all be in trouble,” Marcus said. “No you’re the one who will be in trouble Marcus because daddy told you to put the dog up!” yelled Lucinda. Marcus picks up the leash, hooks it to Rover’s collar and begins to walk him to his pen. The girls decided not to wait on Marcus and runs off into the woods where they have a play house. “No boys allowed,” whispers Gina because she was out of breath from running. The girls begin to make mud pies and pretend to drink tea from the tiny teacups. “I want some soda in my cup,” says Janet. By this time Marcus shows up and scares the girls to pieces. “Ha ha ha! I scared y’all,” he yelled. “That’s not funny!” they yelled together. “I’m leaving, no man needs to be eating mud pies!” Marcus says and walks away. As he approached the house he was met by his father which began asking about his sister. “Lucinda, time to come in. It’s getting dark,” yelled Uncle Phil. “Yes sir,” she answered running towards him. As she headed into the house, Janet and Gina decide that it’s time they head back home too before their mom comes looking for them. “I’ll race you,” says Janet. “No, because you know you can beat me,” Gina replied. Janet takes off running anyways and Gina starts running as well. They ran so far and started walking. They were getting tired and they knew they had to save all their energy to walk up the hill. They were talking as usual about what games they’re going to play once they got home. By this time a man on a tractor seemed to appear out of nowhere and Janet looks at Gina and smiles. “No, I’m not racing you Janet. All you want to do is race!” Gina yelled. By that time Janet hears a panting noise but she didn’t see anything so they continued to walk up the hill. “Do you hear that noise Janet?” asked Gina. “Yes but I don’t know where it’s coming from,” said Janet as she tries to comfort her little sister. Janet turns around and sees Rover running after them. “RUN!!! Gina!!!” yelled Janet and she grabbed her sister’s hand began to pull her as she ran up the hill. Rover chased them all the way to their house. They were yelling and screaming as they got closer to home and their mom heard them screaming. “What’s going on?” screamed mom. Then she notices that there’s a dog chasing after her children. She yells for her husband and he quickly runs out of the house to catch the dog. Thankfully he didn’t get bit by Rover, all he wanted to do was play. Their father called Uncle Phil to come get his dog and he came as soon as he could. The girls learned a valuable lesson that day and knew that had taken The Long Road Home….
