The Strongest One

The Strongest One

The grass was a splendid rich green carpet all over the valleys and fields all summer long. It was the pride and crowning glory of nature and was spread out far and wide as far as the eye could see. It was a wonderful summer of love and plenty and all the world was happy and gay all about. Yet, one day, the frosty autumn weather arrived in the closing of the long summer season. It brought with it the cold and chilly wind and the leaves on the trees turned brown and yellow falling to the ground one by one, leaving the trees stark and bare to behold to the naked eye. The grass turned yellow as well and started to perish throughout the lovely valley of plenty. The winter cold and ice had come again in time and the world was frosty and soon a white carpet of ice and snow covered all the world all about. The valleys and the hills. The mountains and the peaks. Here and there a small root of grass prevailed under the snow and clung on for dear life not knowing if the sunny summer weather would ever return again to make the world happy and gay and filled with life and plenty. One little grass root clung on to existence for all it was worth. It was a hardened little chap and refused to die ignobly under the frosty layers of ice and snow above it. The winter was long and harsh and only a few souls would occasionally venture out into the extreme cold and icy weather and winds. A small family of a father and some children came out of their snowy white house once and built a beautiful snowman in the cold. Playing games in the chilly winter weather and throwing snowballs at each other while laughing with fun and glee.. But they did not stay long to enjoy much joy and happiness in the cold, as there was precious little of it to be found in the chilly winter wind and icy world. Soon they retreated back to the comfort and warmth of their little snowed-in house and were seldom seen again. The ducks and birds had all flown away to warmer climates and the little lonesome roots of grass were left alone to survive or perish like the rest under the ice and snow. The little fellow did not know how long he could last with much more of this ice and cold nights all about. Seemingly lasting forever. Then one magic day the miracle of the warmer sunshine did indeed break through the bleak winter clouds up above. It stopped snowing and soon the first ice started to melt in the returning sunny heat and warmth high up in the heavens. Spring would soon arrive and give back life and love to all its children. The birds and the bees, the fields and the trees. On a miracle morning of sunshine the little brave grass root broke though the frozen ground on top of it and started out in rich green shoots of grass once again just like it did many summers before. The winter cold was all but over and the warm and pleasant sun shone brightly up above as it did each and every loving warm summer. Soon the valleys and the fields were covered once more in rich green grass and green trees of plenty making all happy and filled with the joy of the summer of love. Among them were the happy little grass root feeding the rich carpet of the green lawn above with life and the sustenance of the living beings of wonder. No icy cold winter lasts forever. The wonder of the living world always prevails in the end.
