The Stuff of Legends

Pulling up to the beach just after dawn, was ideal for privacy thought my dad. Keeping up with adjusting kids and the riggers of driving taxi gave his sense of purpose its depth. Running to the edge of Pond toon's Bay to find our favourite cove, only secured for our dad added security from prying eyes. Emerging from our shelter from the bush, at Controversy Lane Bermuda, to bathe in the sea, was his idea of beating back the pee good sleep gave us kids the night before. Touching the water with feet first, then wading in to adjust to the temperature, our screams turned to aggressive joys as the salt water hugged us in return. Our morning ritual of clean had one draw back my father could not see. Flaky dried skin produced by the salt from the sea as we kids passed through the halls of our school. But for the moments in itch, and those waiting at the gate for a familiar taxi bringing us lunch, our time at school was a welcomed balance of learning and play. Only shopping with my dad for school clothes gave me cause to tremble. Trying to buy me fitted white shoes to replace the standard black or brown all but brought me to tears as I rathered the holes a bit more till the store could be stocked with my size in brown. Dad stuck on fit and price, huffing and puffing, brewed over pants with zippers everywhere but lose in my size. To settle for zippers over white shoes was a no brainer when it was understood buying both was out of the question. The only other disturbing sight as we walked to school was the hair style my little sister wore our dad gave her just after the dip in the Ocean. Aside from the two coffee rolls laced with tuna and chopped eggs respectively, coffee piping hot, our childhood adventures where the stuff of legends and joys of the simple... Nj
