The Ugly Ducks

There was once an ugly duckling who all the other ducks laughed at for being so queer and awkward. That was until one day when the ugly little duck had grown tall and pretty and had changed into the most beautiful swan of all. She astounded all the others with her beauty and grace as she glided like a ballerina on the lake displaying her wonderful plumage all across the waters. She met a handsome mate and the two swans had many beautiful little ones and were happy season after season in true love always. The sun rose and set in an endless circle of love for all time to come and the beautiful swan graced all with beauty and wonder for the longest of time. Yet one day her mate grew old and passed away one sad and cold winter’s day. Her little ones had grown into tall and handsome swans themselves and flew away into the sunset with mates of their own, leaving her behind alone and sadly still. She had grown old too over the years and the once beautiful and proud swan had changed into a sad old duck once more with drooping feathers all bleak and dull. The story of love had come full circle and although she was just a plain old duck again after all of this time she would often remember the years of love and grace as a beautiful young lady of love and wonder. She was still a beautiful creature deep inside and all who knew her knew this well. Once a swan and always a swan of beauty and grace. The more things change the more they stay the same. Glide on the little ballerina of the waters and may love and plenty bless you always. Love will always be the only truth that there is. The ugly duckling is always a beautiful swan deep inside.

My story for Women's Day. Thanks for the comment Cleo.
I was always a bit angry reading the ugly duckling, working with young children all my life, some simply don't turn into swans and it's ok. A great theme my dear B.S 🌹Â
A Circle of Life. Thanks Shirley. 🙂
Now that is inspiring for yesterday for the first time in my life I got a discount for being 65 plus years old, an achievement that made me feel old, (belying the young heart) useless (against all reason) and unhappy (though the Frari in Venice is one of the most beautiful churches ever) this tale is Solace - the sun is out again and my first poem of the holiday completed - hanx for the upper 🤗
