The Werewolf (part 1)

My C.O. was the first person that I ever told about the werewolf. Not surprising but he didn't understand. I'd been trying to explain why, after all these years, I wanted out of the army. I couldn't find the words so I told him why I joined instead. That was down to the werewolf.
I was ten and the world was all about football and the 11 plus until one blue sky day in October everything changed. We all did pretty much the same thing after school, the only difference was if you watched Blue Peter or Magpie. We were a Blue Peter household followed by The Magic Roundabout and then we would tune out slightly when mum would bring tea and watch the news and Nationwide. Kids don't know the difference between News and magazine programs. They were the same and had equal veracity so when me and my brother heard Sue Lawley say "The following item may not be suitable for children or those of a nervous disposition" the telly had our total attention and we believed.
The story was about a woman living somewhere in Surrey who had been digging in her garden and had spotted something in the ground. She cleaned it off with the hose and found it was a pendant carved in stone as a wolfs head with a hole bored to take a cord. It was an interesting thing so she took it into the house and pretty much forgot about it.
That night, however, she awoke just after midnight and felt a presence in the room. There was a massive dark shape at the foot of the bed. A wolf, standing upright like a man.
