To Have Nothing But to See Everything

To Have Nothing But to See Everything

Foot steps echo down the tile floor,
Tap then a step continues in a rhyme,
tap step tap step tap step,
almost as if the beat to a song.
Worried I cup my hands over my face and my body tightens,
afraid of making nose I try and stop my fast beating heart from controlling my breathing,
the tap and step gradually loudens as they come closer and closer,
I wondered what would happen if I were found,
would they take me back to the orphanage?
Would they beat me half dead,
all I came for was a piece of bread.

Hidden in the cabinet air muddy and smell of rotten potatoes,
I wasn't bothered even the smell was more pleasant then the sheets on the rusted orphanage beds.
the tap and steps have stopped,
Minutes pass by,
no sound anywhere to be found,
this is my chance!
I slowing creek open the cabinet door,
peak my head out and pray I don't make any noise.
I crawl onto the cold touch tiles and nervously view all my surroundings.
A window I need a window,
noticing the possibilities of my escape,
a sound comes into motion from behind,
tap step tap step tap.....step
A girl, not much older then I, appears to my right.
No expression but she looks right at me,
I stand panicked,
I go to speak, to explain but she,
she turns slowly,
lifts her hand hits her stick to the ground and steps,
tap and step tap and step.
She couldn't see me,
she was blind.

I slide outside the kitchen window and I run,
run as fast as I can,
but I keep picturing the girl and how she looked but could not see,
how her world was black through day and night.
I can steal to be feed but she can never steal her sight back.
I have never been thankful, I have never needed to,
I have nothing, but I have nothing which would be her everything,
I have my sight.
