Van Hellsburg

Van Hellsburg

Fog and mist surrounds her everywhere as she stealthfully moves about the trees in search of the elusive Mr. Hyde. The townspeople are so afraid of him that the only thing you can see outside at night is the cattle they leave to graze overnight. Stopping at the creek to quickly get a drink, she hears the sound of a branch breaking, SNAP!

Jumping behind a rare scarlet blossom bush she draws her crossbow looking about the tall trees for anything out of the ordinary when BAM, looking over her shoulder up to the hideous creatures face when the monster said, in his most sarcastic voice, “Well, if it isn’t the famous Selene Van Hellsburg, Transylvania’s greatest monster hunter. I assume you are here to have a little fun.” Without hesitation, Selene shot an arrow and it punctured through Mr. Hyde’s pale, clammy, muscular arm. He looked at the arrow protruding from his arm, and then like he was pulling a sticker out of his foot, he pulled it out and broke it in half. The monster laughed a tremendous, hacking noise and said; “Now I have a toothpick to use to get little pieces of your meat out from in between my teeth when I’m done with you.”

As Mr. Hyde was laughing after he said that, he didn’t notice that Selene had snuck off behind him and tried on last thing to finally finish off the dreadful Mr. Hyde. She grabbed a small object that is known as a buckleberry bomb and tricked the dimwitted Mr. Hyde into eating it. As soon as Mr. Hyde popped the extremely acidic berry into his mouth, most of his body started to well up like a hot hair balloon, but like the buckleberry is known for, Mr. Hyde collapsed onto the ground and all you could hear was a little pop noise. Selene already knew Mr. Hyde was the town’s beloved doctor, Dr. Jekyll, and she knew that the townspeople would call her a murderer, but that was a price she was willing to pay in order to protect them.

As soon as she could, she took off back to her house to see what other objectives she had to do. When she got home, she realized something was out of the ordinary. Following a trail of wet paw prints that led to her bedroom, she was startled when she heard a window fly open on its own and a howl let out from a distance shortly after. She quickly shut the window and ran in her room to find a letter lying on her bed. Before she even opened it, she already knew who it was from, it was from Luchan.

She opened the letter and read it to herself, “Dearest Selene, it has been awhile since we’ve last seen each other…” Continuing on, “I cannot wait until I can finally get rid of the last alive of the Van Hellsburg family, but I do not want you dead yet, I want to see you die in person so don’t mind my little servants for spying on you, I just wanted to make sure you are ready for your final fight. Take care until we meet again, Signed Luchan.”

After reading the letter, she fell in disgust onto her bed, and as she lied there, she thought about her father telling her how her entire family was chosen as Transylvania’s greatest monster hunters, and how Luchan was their family’s greatest enemy. He told her that her great-great-great-great grandfather promised that none of their entire family could rest or enter heaven until Luchan was killed.

The next morning, she packed up everything that she would need for her journey to Luchan’s castle, buckleberry bombs, silver nitrate bombs, silver bullets, a crossbow and arrows, holy water, silver and wooden stakes, and a device that emits sunlight that can kill up to 2,000 vampires at one time. She headed off into the woods, stopping only for emergencies and to eat and drink, she was off to kill Luchan.

Along the way she stopped at a riverbank to fill up on water when something came up behind her a hit her into the water. When she looked back wiping the blood off her mouth, there was a ferocious and hairy beast standing there looking right at her with its big, demon-yellow eyes and long, sharp yellow teeth dripping drool off its giant long snout. Immediately, she knew it was a lycan, and she flipped up rolling to her bag and grabbed a silver stake and charged at the beast. The beast hit her and she flew across and hit into a tree. Falling onto the ground, she got up to only realize that she couldn’t see anything but blur. The beast ran at her and scratched her face and she fell to the ground. Still breathing and her vision slowly coming back, she saw another creature jump at the beast and killed it with one blow to the chest.

The next thing she knew was that she awoke inside a beautiful house lying in a bed with blankets covering her. She left the room she was in and walked around until she saw a room with a fireplace. Lying by the fireplace in a chair so magnificent it looked as if it was made for kings, she slowly dozed off. A tap on the shoulder startled her and she looked back to see a handsome man looking at her. “Sorry to startle you, but you were very hurt in the woods. I found you being attacked by a lycan and I couldn’t let you die, so I killed the beast before it could kill you. My name is Myca, and I was wondering why you were in the woods by yourself.”

Lost in the beauty in Myca’s face she almost forgot what he asked, “I am Selene Van Hellsburg, and I was on my way to Luchan’s castle, and if you can’t help me, I must be on my way. Oh, and thank you for saving me, I really appreciate it.” She sill continued to admire he striking features.

Very urgently Myca said, “I know where Luchan’s castle is, and I know how to get in unnoticed. Please let me join you, may I ask why you are going there?” She looked around to find a way out of answering when Myca added, “I know you must be going there to kill him, I have heard much about you. I know you might not trust me, but I can help you, and I might be your best help to kill him.”

Very shyly and googley eyed, she answered back, “I would love to have you on my trip, but we need to go now. I have to kill him by the next full moon or my family is doomed.” He looked at her with a puzzling look and she knew she had to explain. “I come from a long line of monster hunters, in fact, the greatest in Transylvania, and if I don’t kill Luchan, my family will never enter heaven.”

“Well, we have three days until the full moon, and Luchan’s castle is a two hour trip from here.” She noticed him looking at her and she quickly turned her head so he wouldn’t see her blush. Then out of nowhere he said, “You know you are very beautiful, I don’t understand why Luchan would want to kill you.”

They equipped everything they would need, and headed towards the castle. After awhile, they were standing at the front gates to Luchan’s Castle. Looking around, Selene watched as lycans were crawling around everywhere, and one of them saw her and howled a loud tremendous howl that could bust any normal persons eardrums. After the howl, the gates opened and they went in. As they were walking down the gorgeous halls filled with magnificent statues, they entered a huge room and on the other side, they saw Luchan sitting in a huge chair.

“Great job Myca, I knew I could count on you to bring her here.” Luchan said as he was walking towards them. “You have proven well my son, you will be just like me when its time.” Selene looked at Myca with betrayal and hurt then at Luchan with anger and hatred.

Then without warning, Myca spoke up out of anger to his father, “No father, I didn’t bring her here for you, I came with her to kill you.” The shock on Selene and Luchan’s face was making Myca feel like he had the power to say and do anything. “Furthermore, why would I help you kill the one I love, she means everything to me, and what would I do without her.”

“Foolish child, I knew your brother would have done better, you have always been a failure and there isn’t anything you can do to change my mind.” Luchan was now getting pissed off. He lashed out at his son and struck him in the face. Selene got the silver nitrate bombs and then thought that she best not use them so she wouldn’t hurt Myca. Luchan then turned to her and ran after her. She dodged to the side and cut him with a knife made out of silver. When she looked back up he was already into his werewolf form. He let out a ferocious howl and hit Selene into a wall and she didn’t get back up for a while. Myca looked over at her and saw that she wasn’t moving and he charged after his father; on the way to his father, he quickly changed into his werewolf form. When he had his father pinned to the ground, he took his razor sharp claws and stabbed to his father’s heart and ripped it out.

When Myca stood up, he was now back to his human self, he stood over his father and said, “Proud of me now?” He then ran over to Selene and lifted her off the ground. He looked at the gushing cut on her head and ripped his shirt off and wrapped it around her head. She then slowly opened her eyes and she weakly said “Thank you.” He helped her stand up and she looked right at him and kissed him passionately until the sun rose up. Before they knew it, the sun was up and Selene looked out the window and she saw the spirits of her family rising up in the sky and she saw her father and he nodded a proud nod and disappeared into the sky.
