Why Don't You Listen?

If you don't want to read all of that the story is at the bottom. haha

My mom and I never really got along when I was younger and I came across something I wrote when I had just had enough of my mother's way of parenting. Granted I know it isn't easy to parent a child but there are things as a parent you should learn, so that you don't push your child away. That is exactly what my mom did to me. She refused to listen, and did everything for herself. When my brother was born I was forced to watch my brother, which you wouldn't think was bad, unless it takes away your childhood from practically raising him. After school I watched him, i fed him, I put him to bed and read him books. When it was the weekend i wasnt allowed to see my friends because I had to "keep an eye" on my brother. I understand if she isnt there, i watch him, but while she is there it is her child and she should have been the one raising him. Me telling her what was unfair her response would be "I don't care, you do what I say"

I'm not saying that this is the most horrible thing that has ever happened to a child, but if you have been in this position you know it doesn't feel great.

anyway a short little story for why I am posting this story....

WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN?

Why don't you listen? You say that listening
is an important and most needed skill if i have to survive out there in
the world and if i want to live under your roof. So why is it you don't
listen to me? Granted i don't have a roof to offer, but i am still a
human being. Being your child makes me no less of a person. You demand
respect, but I believe that respect should not be and can not be forced.
I respect you when you respect me. I don't just hand it out like candy
at a parade.

"You are the
child, so you will always lose the argument." or "Do you really want to
argue with me? because we both know who will win here, and I can tell
you right now... its not you." or "You are dumb because you are the
child."

I don't understand
why you cant admit when you are wrong. And sometimes the teacher is the
student. So chill and listen for once instead of getting in my face
about everything you "think" I did. I am not always at fault here. if
you turn your head you might see the problem. I also find it hard to
explain things to you if you do not listen. I don't know if its because
you don't want to hear it or its just because you are too busy to listen
to my problem. "talk to me anytime, I'm here for you." How can I even
begin to say what I want if you will get mad at me for it, whatever it
may be? Or you just wont listen to the story i try to get across. How
can I even begin to tell you if I know I will get interrupted the next
breath I take in between my sentences? How can I tell you how I feel
about you, if you don't want to hear it? You say that I can tell you if I
have a problem with something or someone, but how do I tell you if that
someone is you?
