A Poet of intense political and ethical sensivity. An Intro by Williamsji Maveli

Poet Sachidanadan

A poet of intense political and ethical sensitivity, Satchidanandan achieves a fine balance between the intellectual, the intuitive, and the emotional in his poetry. While the subtle and the nuanced expressions in his poetry appealed to the literary sensibilities of more enlightened and refined connoisseurs of poetry, its indignant tone and tenor combined with its ardent humanism and emancipatory vision appealed to a wider public. Although his literary criticism draws on complex theory, it is approachable and has introduced Malayalam poets to contemporary trends in all fields of knowledge. A true globetrotter who has participated in numerous poetry festivals and literary meets in different parts of the world, Satchidanandan is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award and Oman Cultural Centre Award. The Library of Congress has thirty-three books by Satchidanandan, in both Malayalam and English.

Williamsji Maveli, author of this write-up was fortunate to attend K. Sachidanandan's Poetry lessons during year 1973 at Christ College, Irinjalakuda in Trichur District in the state of Kerala in India. Williamsji was attending Christ College for his Bachelor Degree during year 1973.

Congrats, Dear Sir and my Poetry Teacher.......

Poet Sachidanadan

The noted poet from Kerala recently read out poems from his collection at an event organized by the Delhi Poetry Club at New Delhi’s India International Center.

“If you have an urge on anything, then make it to evoke to write. There are no poetic subjects as such.” Sachidanandan is a winner of as many as 20 awards, who is also a translator, lyricist and scriptwriter, He himself has translated many of his own works and of other writers into many other languages, apart from his mother tongue Malayalam. Considering awards as professional hazards, the humble poet states, “I don’t write any better or worse because of the awards. One must have the self confidence to ignore and the humility to accept them.” - Williamsji Maveli, who was a student of this famous Indian Poet at Christ College, Irinjalakuda wish to Congratulate the noted Poet on his achievements, and specially of this prestigious award from Gulf Madhyamam (The Gulf Media)
