Poem:
A HUNDRED YEARS AFTER
A hundred years after
Imbued with your vernal sunshine
O illustrious soul, I recite
The divine compositions,
You benevolently handed on
To your devotees ardent
Flourishing in the universe.
My intoxicated spring blossoms
In melodies of your fragrant verse
A spell of divinity permeates
My athirst, roving heart.
My senses savour the nectar
You sprinkled a century ago
Gather devoutly scattered pearls
Glistening in the meadows.
At your behest I opened my southern gate
O Perspicacious Litterateur
Let your spiritual vibes
Drench me immensely in its lore.

POETIC VIEWS
Moushumi Bhattacharjee's poem "A HUNDRED YEARS AFTER" is a devotional lyric expressing profound reverence and gratitude towards an unnamed, influential literary figure, a century after  time. The central theme is the enduring power and spiritual nourishment derived from the predecessor's work.
The poem's structure is relatively free verse, lacking a strict rhyme scheme or meter, which allows for a personal and heartfelt flow of emotion. It is addressed directly to the "illustrious soul," creating an intimate and conversational tone despite the temporal distance.
The language is rich with sensory imagery and metaphors that emphasize the life-affirming and spiritual impact of the literary figure's work. Phrases like "vernal sunshine," "intoxicated spring blossoms," "fragrant verse," "nectar," and "scattered pearls" evoke beauty, vitality, and preciousness.
The act of reading and reciting the compositions is depicted as a deeply personal and transformative experience, "drench[ing]" the speaker in "lore" and permeating their "athirst, roving heart" with "divinity." The term "Perspicacious Litterateur" highlights the intellectual and insightful nature of the revered figure.
The tone is one of deep admiration, spiritual yearning, and humble devotion. The poet presents herself  as a humble recipient of a great legacy, actively seeking to connect with and be guided by the spiritual and intellectual essence of the past master. The poem is a tribute not just to the historical literary figure, but to the timeless and universal impact of profound art and thought.Congratulations to Poet.
