This is a very special picture for me. A scene from my imagination. When I first painted this it was done in daylight colours with the sun, in hues of orange. I was feeling uncomfortable about it when I finished it and tried to get rid of it. However one morning I woke up with a strong urge to change it and it felt like I had to do this before I could paint anything else. I started at the top following my intuition changing it from a daytime scene to a night time and putting in the moon instead of the sun. My excitement increased as I was finishing it. Once I had completed it I hung it on the wall to dry and stood back to look at it, I felt really pleased with myself...another joy moment then to my utter amazement there she was right in the middle of my painting ....a womans face.! I did not paint her in . So make of her what you will .......Can you see her?

Are may be the reason you felt so uneasy with this one, may have a lot to do with the image, that can clearly be seen, bleeding, through the embedded dark blue sky,insisting on being seen.....Have you had other paintings,that has posed this phenomenon and do you recognize the image? Great painting and a mystery face, whose origin, that may be a bigger mystery to try and unlock...

Are may be the reason you felt so uneasy with this one may have a lot to do with the image that can clearly be seen, bleeding through the embedded dark blue sky.....Have you had other paintings that has posed this phenomenon before and by the way, you have (2) images, that are seen in this painting, one of the woman and another larger image, of an aboriginal distinction.This painting may have been so attention seeking, due to the images, that may have wanted to be known by the painter....

Thanks for your comments Jim, this has been my most outstanding of mystery face paintings. I have done lots of paintings that have faces seen in them and in fact this was used on my trade stand and its amazing what people see in it when they really start to look......so maybe its allowing oneself to see beyond that which we perceive to be real. The lady in the lake, I do not know her and there have been many suggestions as to who she might be, all I know is she has stirred and fascinated many peoples imaginations and maybe there is a hidden meaning in that too. I laughingly call her my PR agent as she made many a person stop at my trade stand!!

I would see why it was such a high attention grabber, an alluring soft, yet mystical painting, with many secrets, has it to hide, although anxiously are they, awaiting, to be heard, beyond just, being seen....Job well done and was this a place from memories, once visited are is it a painting from the imaginations of Liana, which ever the case,your works and its, soft brush effect realism and yet your,(contrast),remains as crisp and evenly visual, as the embarkment, of toast, on a piece of bread.... deserves and demands to be seen....

Thank you Jim, you make poetry of my art! I travelled around Ireland for many years with this painting at mind body spirit fairs and it evoked many a reaction. Not everyone could see her until I pointed her out. The scene evolved from my imagination but many said to me they knew exactly where it was. Each one recalling a different place in their memory.
