Joyce's Rainbows

sweets and treats

Joyce's Rainbows

Remember the little sweetie shops, tubs full of sweets,
Colours like the rainbow, all of your favourite treats.
a quarter of bonbons, and midget gems too,
jelly babies and Peardrops, or a Nutty chew.
Lots and lots of variety, to spoilt for choice,
you smile with excitement as you pass your pennies to Joyce.
A dear little lady with an apron over her frock,
in a small cabin shop, with a giant cuckoo clock.
That's how I remember, the sweetie shop by me,
a huge bay window, overshadowed by a tree.
And if you were lucky, and you really had enough,
she'd pass you back some pennies, and you could get more stuff.
shelves and rows of happiness, all huddled in a jar,
you knew which ones were which, even from afar.
I miss those quaint little sweet shops, I miss those jars of sugar,
And if I saw Joyce today, I would definitely go and hug her.

Hello Sharon...

We were so spoilt...

So hard when you had to eat the generosity before you got home...

Otherwise, interrogation for hours...

You had to do that right?

You can lie to make me feel better...

I don't mind...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

I remember those sweet shops! There was a fab old fashioned sweetshop in Cambridge ... sort of old fashioned at any rate. Not sure if it's still there though. Love your poem x

For me, it was a pack of Smith's chips original and a coke while Da had a beer with mates. Twas simpler times. I was happy.

I love this, well written and simple enough to evoke fond memories. Lucky bags and 10p mix ups!
