When Indeed

From The Underside of The Wild Roses

When Indeed

Ā
I must not let the mere thought of deathĀ
steer me from livingĀ
when, indeed I greet the earthly wormsĀ
I’d like to thinkĀ my time hereĀ Ā
was worth every moment
successful in being me
whether I chose to be a drunkĀ
or a prostitute an artist or a poetĀ
or simply a good person who just loved, loveĀ
when I am gone
and on the undersideĀ
of the wild roses
I will never know
because…
my finaleĀ will simply be left
with those I leave behind.
