Poem -

sequestered

sequestered

My poetry
was sequestered
from being
a part of your
memorial

Siblings kept me
from speaking
my heart

A scripture verse
and a quote from
Ronald Reagan
were the only words
I was allowedΒ
to mutter
at your final
goodbye

Sorrow
caused
me to comply

respect for
solidarityΒ
kept meΒ
aligned

no energy
for a rebellion
though
my speckled hoof
distinguished
me fromΒ
the flock

in the end

Your best friendΒ  whoΒ
knew you
bestΒ
whispered to
me as theΒ
procession
ended
that I was theΒ
one who
you kept
dear to
your heart.Β  Β

Yeah my sisters do not like my poetry.Β  All other family members do and many were dismayed that I did not read a poem at my mother's memorial.Β  My older sister has a lot of anger towards me as I was the favorite.Β  Oh well.

It's just beautiful Greg. Funerals are always difficult and happen so quickly that a person has not even processed the grief. We want to get it perfect but nobody ever knows at that time what perfect is. Hugs x
