Memory Momentum

A Saturday’s Delight

Memory Momentum

Did you feel that I thought of you
On a Saturday?
Could you see the Earth tilt on its axis,
Or encounter the force field in the air?
How about the flowers—splayed about everywhere?
Oh, but how could you have missed it, dear?
What a shift there was in the atmosphere.

So precious was that Saturday,
When I sat below a swaying tree,
Watching a leaf hang with fragility,
Pondering nothing but its loneliness—
And if there was intention
In its isolation
From its sisters in the wilderness.

My heart began to resonate
When the corner of my vision
Suddenly glimpsed a counterpart
Hanging in the same fashion,
All but a few inches away.

What a delight—
Seeing you in this view of nature’s play,
All but making my spirits gay.
For in the place of one, there was now two—
A change that is welcome, albeit new.
A change I first experienced meeting you.

You, who now exist in all my timeframes,
Including the ones where I wear a frown,
Hiding in a corner to wallow,
While you wait not far away for the return of my senses,
And continue waiting, even when it does not.

On that day, we were elements of nature.
And so, there I sat in nature’s element, with a heart that was full,
Ignoring all my blues,
Lying in the grassy dew,
Finding simplicity in missing you—
Knowing that, wherever you were,
You felt it too.

There are many kinds of love,
