Poem -

Devil I know

I want to be in bed fast asleep.
Dreaming that maybe I'm okay.

That tomorrow stays far off

Some place else.

Yesterday felt more like myself.

Should have stood my ground in the sun

Like the summer would want.

Not hide away

Like a vampire does,

His heart a ghost town.

Regret when your whole life's ahead

Of you means sand's ticking away.

Kill you slower than a thousand

Cuts people say.

So will I stay never quite okay.

“Should have stood my ground in the sun
Like the summer would want.”
This’s a great line.
Rory, the Summer still wants you to stand your ground in the sun.

In full disclosure once I had the first stanza
I had this line to use up
Originally it was

We should have lived in the sun
Like summer would want

An attempt of mine trying to be romantic.
Instead it became a metaphor
For me living like a vampire.

All well.

People, don't throw away your lines!
Work them until they work.

Rory, I'm glad I'm only reading this now, I have been on a journey home, and I've realized not one single family member thinks I'm worth a light.

Should have stood my ground in the sun

This is how I felt you have nailed this one, to be alive yet not seen not heard, at least in my case it's blood relatives that hurt me. Yours may be different but in the end when we feel that cloud of pure darkness and we feel alone that's exactly how you have very cleverly described it in one line so elegantly. Kudos 🌹

Mmm .. seems like you're saying the same B said

A time to retreat there is

Live and fight another day

It's the past we think of

Without knowing already have we come back
Bigger and stronger
