WHAT IF ..........?

WHAT IF

What if my family had been normal?

What if they hadn't killed what might be love?

What if, despite this, I hadn't grown up to be so formal?

What if family life, such as it was, had been enough?

What if I hadn't felt like an outcast in my own home?

What if I hadn't hidden myself away to read books?

What if I hadn't been someone who didn't mind being alone?

What if I hadn't found those who gave me kind, caring looks?

What if I hadn't found an outlet in writing?

What if I hadn't sort of drifted into teaching?

What if those who should have loved me I hadn't felt like fighting?

What if I hadn't found people who helped me with what I was seeking?

And what if, despite all this, I hadn't grown into someone full of love.

You know what I don't know, but I have felt a guiding hand from above.

Yes if only we knew. And they are still questions we ask of ourselves. Thank you for your comment. B
