Poem -

Night’s doorways

the picture is (this time) not one of our own

Night’s doorways

Blindly,
night comes to me.

Naked,
night reaches deeply into me.

Yet in a distant forest an owl hoots,
a call to my name.

My name to be a door into
another valley, home
to many houses empty
for want of words.

Silently night turns into
dream, a view into
a past (mine?), giving rise
to an understanding:

me and this world -
we are both looking for
where there is reason
rooting
though no earth is visible.

Me and this world, we breathe
relief through grief -
in joy we may inhabit this valley,
our life,

when we have drunk all of
night’s rain, all till the last drop,
those empty houses will welcome people.

Night comes to be its own door
into a new day. There shall be children
inheriting the valley.

Thank you for catching my drift here, night often stands for a sudden black mood and the rest for the struggle to get out of that... My poems that result from it are the children (my past resurged unexpectedly once more😭🤣) so I had to meditate... Which is kind of like a dream, indeed.

Sounds like a dream and loneliness in the dream. Wonderful. 🌹

Thank you, it is a dream (will I ever be free of sudden flare's of past/black moods (Night)?) I have learned how to listen and overcome and turn it into children (poetry). But: I am not alone in the dream, I have outside much help (owl > wisdom/intuition/ my wife and Cosmo!). I am even reworking this into Dutch, for the first time in three or so years... Life is too good now to waste away moping, don't you think?

As a person who doesn't believe in moping, yes get on with everything that is good rather than focusing on every thing that has been or is bad, the two will always come together, glass half full always 😉

Yes, I am no moper too, but I am a Mercury Retrograde person, I need to mull over things regurlarly to inch forward into understanding and find peace with the world I am living in (the whole world is too big and messy to have peace with, I suffer for those who have no chances in life - war, famine, exploitation...). I am lucky, my life improved with aging instead of going down🍀

I love the way you wrote this line. It ends the poem so well. I love the whole poem of course, but this line really grabbed me x

Wow, those are welcome words, more words will follow to inheruit the valley, I am sure, with such encouragement. Hanx!

Thank you for the appreciation, there is a sequel on its way. It is what keeps me on my feet/sane - hope things will improve more and more... Anyway, you are never late - words do not melt🤣... Read you later📖

Dreaming deep John and perhaps a well deserved catharsis expelled when writing/completed.
The best way to let off steam is through words and you chose said words well.

Thank you John for sharing and life like dreams can be mixed bag, for that's the way it goes.

And Tina above mentions your last lines and yes that grabbed my attention also,  it is a great closure.
Shaun :)
