In a binary world of binary choices
Made of zeros and ones,
You were a one
And I was a zero.
But together we were a ten.
The highest value on any scale
For as long as I put you ahead of me.
And since you had value to begin with
My existence meant as much as my number did
A perfect relationship for as long as we’re a ten.
Tenuous
Equivocal
Naïve.
But when the time came for me to morph into a one
You left me for another one,
So I myself became a one
In search of another one,
Someone. Anyone.
To be one and one,
Second to none.
To transcend the scale and fix
What it has done.
But I ended up a no one.
And so I was done
With searching for
The One
