Poem -

1775

As I stepped upon each blade of grass,
Those dewy, wet blades of grass,
I felt the sunrise for take me
Further into a land where I couldn't be free.

I was safe with my friends by my side.
But they wandered away, into the field wide.
So they left me behind, all by myself.
No one around me, nobody else.

I continued on the trail, continued to wander.
And with every breath I thought and pondered.
The fog returned again, but it didn't come for me.
No, it brought me a man, though he was hard to see.

He moved closer to me, unaware I was there.
The only thing alarming though was the rifle he did bear.
It hung across his entire left side parallel
To the woolen hat that stood out just as well.

I noticed a stain as he neared my side.
A blood stain, on his right thigh.
Within three seconds, the blood hit his knee,
And that sight became all I could see.

Then his eyes looked into mine,
Those fearful eyes seemed so alive.
I was almost sure his heart would thrive,
Until he whispered the word, "1775."
