2020 vision

Finally, we seem to have 2020 vision,
Now, we are more reliant on each other than the television. 

Our people are connecting all across the lands, 
Our hopes, hearts and faith expand as we mentally join  hands. 

There is a whole new world with a whole new way, 
Our tomorrow will look so different from our yesterday. 

The stress and darkness we were in was deep, 
And in fact our eyes were open but we were ceaselessly asleep,

Now our eyes can open, big and wide, 
We can listen to the bees, the birds, the wind and tide. 

We don't need to wander, 
We don't need to roam. 
Our values have synchronised just by staying at home. 

Yes there has been mundanity in our days, 
But we've started to give each other some well deserved praise.

Children feel the joy of just being outside, 
The shops, restaurants and bars are no longer our refuge to hide. 

The four walls of our houses are more familiar than we'd ever anticipated, 
The traditional warm hug of tomorrow could be debated. 

By halting the haircut and suspending the preening,
We have gone back to the basics and realised life's meaning.

It is a profound realisation. 
That our needs are love, kindness and one another. 

Being kind for kindness' sake, 
Has reconnected us with the trees, the air and the lakes. 

Energy is all there is and we have a chance to recreate it. 

Solidarity is unity, 
Solidarity is respect, 
Solidarity is safety.

So yes we are all being good for goodness' sake,
In our routines, we have jammed on the brakes, 
We stay indoors, we talk, we laugh, we work, we even bake cakes. 

We are united in all of this together, 
We are making history, for today and forever.

See the serenity and feel the peace. 

Take a moment of calm to believe in your fellow man,
Because the future, albeit unknown and fragile,
has been placed in our worthy hands. 

This is all our design, 
Using 2020 vision and a clear resign,
From our past lives,
Until tomorrow. 

The skies are bright, the air is so clear,
The water it glistens, 
Because we have paused, looked and finally stopped to listen. 

Open your eyes, your ears and your heart,
For when this 'new world' grows stable and steady, 
We can stand together,
Smile and say 'we are ready'.
