a cloud

A wanderer I,
in solitude,Â
with steps both firm and sure,
A cloud upon the horizon,Â
my sight did gently lure.
'Neath heaven's shroud,
I set my path,Â
towards that distant cloud,
A silent vow,
a whispered oath,Â
to reach it I avowed.
This cloud,
a shroud of heaven's craft,Â
a beacon in the sky,
Did beckon me,
for my soul's own sake,Â
to where the eagles fly.
With every step,
I sought its gleam,Â
its silver lining bright,
Yet as I walked,
it seemed to fade,Â
an endless, futile flight.
The cloud,
a specter in the wind,Â
from my grasp did flee,
Through fields of gold,
I chased its form,Â
where it led, I'd be.
'Twas a quest
beneath the boundless dome,Â
where I, a sojourner lone,
The cloud,
a shroud of hope's own guise,Â
in its dance had shown.
The cloud,
my mistress coy and bright,Â
kissed by the morning air.
This airy sprite,
this vision true,Â
a vaporous maiden fair,
So let me stride,
in search of clouds,Â
where horizons far do lie,
For I've chased a cloud,
a dream aloft,Â
beneath the open sky.
