A Day or Two

We won't remember in a day or two—
Tears can be shed for today, that's fine,
But by dawn, my dear, the world will renew
Again so don't fret because time
Has a way of erasing memory with pain
So soon
We won't remember—give it a day or two.
Offer a rose tonight and weep for the world
However genuine you claim to be—
However impolite your apathy to
Whatever the untimely tragedy,
Feel a white sting in your soul
And a closure from fear—
We won't remember in a day or three,
A day or three, my dear.
You'll be alright on the other side of life,
Growing and dying the same one more day
And the universe ticks on with all it's deceptive light
And blinded eyes to its decay—
You need  not waste another breath
On those who rot too youngÂ
At a 6 foot depth,
You won't remember their names in a year or ten,
When flesh becomes cheese and bones are goo
When the tender forgets to pull the weeds again
And squirrels sit upon a wind-thrashed tomb...
No, how will we remember then?
Hell, memory won't leave a residue
Until its time to save our own skins
And we realize they'll forget
In a day or two...
Give it a day or two...
