Poem -

A greater power.

I cast a weary eye inwardly and it lays upon the dark one.
He looks somewhat like me though its mouth is harder, words cruel.
Emitting sounds of greed fueled hate that give birth to grief.
Whispers of broken dreams keep me hidden from my sleep.

The eyes are cold, appear as murky waters filmed with deceit.
They are clouds blocking brightness diminishing true clarity.
I hear promises of possessions shiny trinkets and lustful sordid mating.
A gift of power unaccountable without a need to provide an answer.

A clap of thunder resounds within my chest, a voice of love.
The sound is felt throughout and threatens to tear asunder.
‘Get back behind me foul beast’ speaks the one who rides the holy light.
The redeemer bids me enter.

‘I have watched and waited patiently for you to knock.’
‘My embrace I give without condition or a cost.’
‘You are the leaf, I am the root I bid you bloom among the few.’
‘I offer my protection follow me I am the truth.’

And so I choose with open heart to serve the light and not the dark.
Without pain began to weep.
Joyful waters wash clean the shame guilt and grief.
That cruel mouth became a smile born is compassion, mercy for mercy's sake.

The chains that held me in bondage fell to ash before the wind.
They grasp the dark one limb to limb.
Its reign is at an end.
An unseen hand has forced fear to Its knees and numbed it evil speech.
