A Journey Into Solitude
I have loved you so longย that I have neglected to notice
the night crimson into mornย and turnover into day.
With sun at high noon,
kicking up dustย in transcendent splendor,
we meet in the middle.
Two desperadoes,
guns at the ready,
fingers twitching nervously,
or two sailors,ย two captains,
ready at the helm,ย forging the iron ship over the roiling sea.
I have fallen into a sober stateย of quiet contemplation.
I have stared blissfully into evergreen,
I haveย traced the pattern onย lilac plate underย plastic scrambled eggs.
I have transcribed my heart's benediction,
onto a map of Europe,
and Iย leave you knowingย that Iย will always believe,
the sun shone for us,ย
and us alone.ย
