A kitty who doesn’t belong

When I was a small kitty
I lived in a smoky cityÂ
People too busy to take pity
On a starving little kitty
Pests and ratsÂ
Same as catsÂ
Beggar trash Â
So they’d thrashÂ
Run, run, on all fours
A kitten’s never safe outdoorsÂ
Run, run, past all storesÂ
Humans always lock their doorsÂ
From now on, I’ll be strongÂ
I’ll be right when the world’s wrongÂ
Even when I’ll never belongÂ
I’ll keep meowing my lonely songÂ
Run, run, far awayÂ
From the city, finally todayÂ
Run run, little stray
Find a new place to stayÂ
Now, I’m a kitten no longerÂ
Despite having grown stronger -
People are now kindÂ
and don’t kick me
or leave me behindÂ
no longerÂ
They say “Such a good kitty”
With gentle eyesÂ
Surely,
It must all be lies
