Ekphrasis

Ekphrasis

I tried to cut them off and offer them to you
“Just take them, please, and leave me in peace”
But a butterfly’s wings or a marionette’s strings
Are but parts of a sum turned accessories
The horns without their head won’t adorn your shed
Even slaves and cattle have to be fed

I tried to cut them off and offer them to you
Your eyes were making candles out of my grease
