Hope Died

Hope began as a small child,
Torn from her mother’s womb.
She grew beside me, meek and mild,
Her voice my only anchor in a world of doom.

We journeyed on against the shadows,
She stayed with me through all my sorrows.
Her voice
Her words
A fragile promise
A holy thread through life’s abyss

But the night stretched on for far too long
The night deepened, fierce
The storms were strong
A monster rising from the whole
A silent void that swallowed her soul.

Her voice grew weak and faint
I held on tightly
But she died
And I accepted my fate

In the distance I could hear my loved ones crying in despair
So I gave the memories of the words
Hope used to share

Then suddenly light split the night sky
Hope rose through Me
Hope had not died

Darkness will never leave
It’s a force that stays near
But now I shine my light to calm the fear
A lamp for others lost in prayer
When hope feels absent
I stand there
