A Life

Cells splitting, hot with blood
They duplicate, they overflood
Two eyes that glint within the skin
With hope or fear, or savage in sin
Not blest, not perfect, it pains to say
Your sum expressed by a varied array
A rage, a kindness, bittersweet
And all the strange that makes you neat
Talent with bounds, the mind does fetter
True, there's always someone better
Obsession, dreams, and self-deceit
You beat yourself in shame's defeat
No you're not pure, or all secure
A thing of love and strife
But through it all you yet remain
An amazing gift of life
