A Momentary Lapse

A Momentary Lapse

I'm sick of being tired
I'm sick of being wired
I take a pill to stay awake
A pill to go to sleep

I'm sick of living life in reverse
Instead of using the clutch
I crunch the gears into first

I'm sick of writing, sick of fighting
Sick of saying the same shit in a verse
I feel like a voodoo doll full of pins with a curse

Sick of monotony
This life has got the best of me
Vicious circles
This script has it in for me

I'm sick of my own false sense of security
Need to wake up to reality
Need another blood test
Need to see my GP

I'm sick of mortality, I embrace insanity
Riding the buckled wheel of life
With the rest of humanity

I'm sick of not being in control
Come on Satan, take the rest of me
I'm easy pray
Not in control of my own destiny

Sick of feeling sorry for myself
When I should be living the dream
The fabric of false reality
Coming apart at seems

Sick of being ungrateful
Give me a pen & paper so I can make a list
I need a fist
In the mouth
For my own good
Make me write down reasons why I should
Sort my life out for good

Give me hope, I already have reason
I have a wife and family
All I want to do is please them

Hopefully this is just a blip in time
Tomorrow is a new day
The slate wiped clean
I look forward to rediscovering my own rational mind

Wow SYD!!...so glad I caught this one!!....a fantastic write..... and I know this could relate to anyone dealing with the struggles that depression invites..... but the image made my mind go directly to ROGER WATERS who did so many awesome lyrics for PINK FLOYD and who was so often in the psych ward dealing with these very issues!!..... one of fav's from you brother poet.....PINNED!!.....smokin' grooves!!.....T xo ?✳✴☀♥

Thanks Tony I'm glad you like it. I wasn't quite feeling myself when I wrote this one. As you'l know the picture for this poem is in fact from A Momentary Lapse Of Reason by Pink Floyd, although Roger had left the band by then.

I made the pilgrimage to see Roger Waters in 2011, he was performing The Wall at the same arena that ISIS targeted in May of this year. It was the most spectacular concert I have ever been to.

Always good to meet another Floyd fan. Take care. - Love & rockets - Syd (Barret) lol

Really???...I'm glad you like it Lucy. I'm also glad that you can sense the emotion of how I was feeling when I wrote it but I've got to admit that it's one of my least favourite writes. I don't like how it's about me feeling sorry for myself for getting into a mess which is completely of my own doing. I almost cringe when I read it lol. I'm very suprised that it got nominated. I suppose that shows other readers must have felt a similar way a some point in their lives.

Thanks for reading. I always appreciate feedback. Take care - Syd xo

Hi Lucy I didn’t think my opinion of my own poem would make you change your mind from 5 stars to 1. It's no big deal though, everyone's entitled to change their mind - Syd xo

Whoa Syd, that was an incredible mistake which I straight away changed! It would be completely out of my character. This deserves 5 as always. XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
