A Portrait of Anxiety

A Portrait of Anxiety

Smiling sharks beneath the sea,
Never ever worried me.
Now I'm afraid of all I see...
Surrounded by anxiety
Ā
I try to breathe
breathe out ..breatheĀ  in.
Relax and let the peace begin,
but what I get no one can see...
I’m drowning in anxiety
Ā
My chest goes up, but lungs have ceased,
and air can never be released.
The hands of fear all claw at me....
I’m ruled by my anxiety
Ā

I’m ruled by my anxiety

When you suffer from anxiety it infects and festers in every thought; it really does come to dominate your waking hours...and if you'reĀ unlucky, your sleeping hours as well!

"Smiling sharks beneath the sea" is the perfect image/metaphor.

Insightful..and a little claustrophobic!!

i suffer severely with depression and anxiety and i think for me personally the thing that has prolonged this illness is not wanting or being able to understand, see, accept or explain my thoughts and feelings. Poetry is a saviour and this poem is so on point! This proves it is all about quality not quantity and believe it or not this will probably save some lives because although being a morbid tone it shows that those of us who suffer are not alone! Fantastic write. 5 stars. Thankyou for sharing xx

Hi MikaylaĀ  your words really touched me and I agree with you that poetry is a real saviour!! Mental health issues are finally being spoken about and not swept under the carpet any longer and people are realising that ANYONE can suffer with depression and anxiety and they should never have to make this journey alone. If this helped then I am humbled and thank you so much for your kind words.
Stay well, stay positiveĀ  and keep writing!
Hugs and peace xxx

Another well constructed piece Lodigiana... I think you have managed to get the balance between emotion andĀ  reality absolutely correct. A very straightforward write, emotive and informative. I like this very much..thank you for sharing xx
