A SCREAMING HEART

My conscience yelled run and hide
From the hungry beast of the past
Her scars were tattooed across my mind
Causing me to be afraid to walk among the roses
Her poisonous thorns were hidden
Behind the petals of her smile
I was intoxicated by her fragrance
Death had never smelled so sweet
And my heart willingly became her victim
Like a carnivorous plant
She sought my soul to quench her thirst
Every time she blushed I became weak
But the gods had mercy on my innocence
And freed me from the clutches of her deception
Years had passed and she was forgotten
Or at the least I thought so
But in the sweetness of my sleep
She was resurrected in my dreams
And in the stillness of the night
My heart began to scream.
