A Seed

A seed is placed within the Earth
with expectations of growth,
and promise of life and hope
for plant and farmer both.

Many flora and fauna alike
cover the colorful land -
all grow strong and beautiful
with a little helping hand.

This seed, however, took long to sprout,
leaving the farmer an empty scene.
Eventually the seed did peak -
its leaves so frail and stem so lean.

The farmer ripped the seedling from the ground
in a fit of utter rage.
Then stormed away and locked himself
inside his red-bricked cage.

Alone with no soil to call home,
the seedling lay helpless baking in the sun.
A boy came along, skipping and laughing,
and having too much fun.

The boy spotted the seedling
and kneeled by its side;
he dug a hole and planted the seedling,
the smile on his face so wide.

The seedling began to grow -
over three feet in a two days.
The boy looked up at it
in pride and amaze.

The plant was now the tallest in the land.
The farmer came out to see its bough.
He looked at the boy 
and said one word... "How?"

The boy gazed at the farmer,
then at the branches above,
he smiled with joy,
and replied with "love."
