Poem -

A Soldier's Last Letter

Human ashes fill the air

Air that is now sucked up by black smoke

I lay face up unable to do anything but stare

Trying to listen for help but only gunshots spoke

My face and body stripped and drained from life

I could do nothing but cry

Because as my breaths shortened I could only think of my wife

Knowing that she knows I put forth my best try

I have served you well

And I will see some of my soldiers soon

The others will live to tell

Tell our sacrifices for keeping our people from doom.
