A special kind of brokenness
A special kind of brokenness,
Afflicts the Homo sapiens race.
Although our name does âwiseâ profess,
Itâs ignorance that we embrace.
We have the brain to know for certain,
Certain things are known and true.
Yet we refrain, we draw the curtain,
Recoiling from some truths when ânewâ.
And even though the evidence,
Is piling up before our eyes,
We stay in doubt or âon the fenceâ,
Beholden to our captains lies.
Evidently, most of us,
Just so as to get along,
Will accept or acquiesce,
To forceful edicts, right or wrong.
Just like our hairy kin in caves,
The Silver-back holds sway,
To them, we are all naught but slaves,
The Silver-backs wear suits today.
Our natural disposition,
Just to do as we are told,
Is forged by evolution,
And those who fight it break the mold.
The act of standing up to Power,
When Power takes the piss,
Can raise a rage in those who cower,
Afraid to take the slightest risks.
âJust donât upset the applecartâ,
âHave some more Kool-Aidâ,
The mantra that the cowards start,
Their main concern is getting paid.
So if you dare to ârock the boatâ
Just donât expect your âmatesâ
To buckle up and face the moat,
As with your truth you storm the gates.
If history serves to educate,
You âll be hung right out to dry,
If your moral fibers penetrate,
The filters of the suit and tie.
To those who just must free the truth,
Then cover well your tracks,
Protect and duplicate your proof,
Expect overt and sneak attacks.
To those who make that dire choice,
Please let me raise my half full glass,
To you I owe my wings, and voice,
Without you, Freedomâs reign will pass.
