A Thousand Footprints

Iâve walked this beach a hundred times,
A thousand footprints washed away.
Together with a mourning soul
the  shingle shifts and makes me sway.
My pace is slow, my steps unsure
I feel you near yet know that yourâre
now somewhere else,
a place unknown,
are you with friends?
Or all alone?
I close my eyes to hear the sea
imagining youâre here with me
and dream about the walks weâd take
ignoring my perpetual ache.
The seaweed flowers the salty brine,
the lacy waves like sparkling wine.
An empty beach, a quivering sea,
gulls swooping by
so noisily..
Yet nâer a sound can I perceive
as all I know
is how to grieve.

As always Lodi an emotional read and one that so many of us can relate to. Love the phrasing and the wonderfully descriptive language. Well done xx
Thank you Stevie C xx
Awwww i feel your grief â¤ď¸đâ¤ď¸
Thank you so much Jill.
Sometimes places and things can often just stir up old memories that we thought were safely hidden away... but that is what makes up the fabric of our lives isn't it? a mixture of wool and silks interthreaded.Â

Awww very true my love â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Oh wow you just made me tear up. I was widowed six years ago. I would go to the beach on his birthday and soak up the sea air whilst thinking of him. He loved the beach, and we had a special sandy patch, we would go to.
 Wonderfully written, totally flawed meÂ
Oh Gwendoline I hope it didn't make you too sad my darling âĽ....memories can hurt but they show how deeply we feel for the person we have lost and we just acknowledge that sometimes in the most unexpected places. I think we are lucky to have such lovely memories to hold onto. Be happy Lodigiana xx
Itâs a beautiful piece and it really spoke to me so thank you đÂ
yes they do say better to of loved and lost than to never love at all. It was a very content life we had with each other. So I am lucky I got to experience thatÂ

Hello Tony I am always so taken aback by your comments..truly! it is so generous of you and it actually really does lift me. I guess we all have sadnesses that creep up on us and living close to the sea as I do it has always played a pivital part in my life..both for good memories and some not so good. With so little to do these days walking on the beach is a wonderful form of exercise but it does bring with it memories..that beach has seen me as a young girl dreaming of romance, me as a mum running after the kids, walking the dog who loved the water, as a wife walking hand in hand with the man in my life and with my mum laughing and remembering old times. I'm so happy that you enjoyed it my friend. Stay safe as always. Your friend Lodi xxÂ
