A Tree In Blossom

A famous and popular Chinese poem, as shown in the image, written by poetess Xi Murong (席慕蓉), Taiwan, translated by Yiyan Han(c), 2020-10-30. Last modified on 2025-01-23 in an attempt to make this poem be of classical appeal.

I'm aware of the fact that it's been translated into English by others, as easily googled, but I prefer my own translation. This beautiful poem has been performed as an amazing choir, eg the video published on Youtu6e.

How could I make thee see me
At time when I look in my prime, for this
I’ve prayed to Buddha for the five hundred years
To grant the earthly union of me and thee

Buddha has since turned me into a tree
Growing on thine only walking path
Full of discreet blossom in the sunrise
Each of flower expresses the longing from my past lives

Would thou strain thine ears when coming close
The shivery leaves show my passionate wait for thee
After thy passing by blindly in the end, O! my friend
What’s fallen on the ground behind thee
Aren’t the flower petals
But it's my shattered heart in pieces
