Abide in Us

Do we really love people,
or do the humans around us
only exist as things?

Some in our possession
where property is "Law"
others in our orbit,
including those who should
and "shouldn't" be
And then those others
who may or may not exist
in galaxies far far away

I thought I knew how to love
but over time I came to realise
that engendering and nurturing relationship
is beyond the shallow shoreline of a cliche

So many depths and crevices,
cave, plains and peaks
that cannot be explored without connection
to the land, the skin, the heart

There are no laws there,
only one rule:
Stay
